First Born Program
First Born Program is a relationship-centered, curriculum-based approach that supports expectant caregivers and families of young children in feeling joy and confidence while raising healthy, happy children. First Born Program believes that all families need regular, empathic, non-judgmental support throughout the early years of parenting a child. Families receive coaching, support, and information about early childhood development, health, nutrition and safety; they also engage in fun activities to stimulate children’s brain development and learning.
What is the model’s approach to providing home visiting services?
Families receive 40 home visits during the child’s first year of life. Prenatal and toddler visits are provided based on families’ needs. First Born Program requires families to initiate services before the child is 2 months old but recommends that families initiate services prenatally by the second trimester. First Born Program provides services until the child turns 5 years old.
First Born Program serves families expecting their first child. Local programs may serve a wider range of participants, such as families who enroll after the child is 2 months old or who are not having their first child, through a second implementation option called First Born and More.
